Fixtures Final League Table Player Profiles
What can you say about this squad of players? When you think back to August last year, some of these kids had never even been on a football pitch, but as the season progressed they have grown in stature. We had a difficult start to the season with 3 defeats in a row, but the tide began to turn after a 3-3 draw away to Darlington TSC. This was closely followed by our first win away to Northallerton 4-0. We then travelled to Barnard Castle with renewed hope to face the top of the league side, but were on the wrong end of a 8-2 defeat. This was closely followed by a North Riding Cup match away to 1st Division Marton Hall Drive who gave us a footballing lesson with a 10-0 mauling. However, just before Christmas we won 2 games 8-1 versus Primrose Hill and Prissick Rovers. Confidence renewed, results and performances steadily improved in 2006 with some notable games such as Greatham away 2-2 and beating SJCP at home 9-1. We went into the last two games of the season with a point to prove to two good sides. We won a very hard fought game 2-0 versus Hardwick Youth who are possibly one of the best footballing teams in the league. Then we went into our final league game at home to Barnard Castle wanting revenge for what happened back in October. Barnard Castle needed to win both their remaining games to claim the league title. They scored midway through the first half and must have thought they were on for another easy victory BUT after a rousing half time team talk the lads went out and produced a fantastic second half display that not only earned us a 1-1 draw in a game we should have won, but also denied Barnard Castle the league title. Revenge is sweet! This squad of players has the potential, the character and a great mentality to go on to bigger and better things. In their very first season they have more than held their own in a very tough league. We can’t wait for next season to start. As our first season comes to an end we would like to thank everyone involved in Acklam FC, players, parents, supporters and sponsors. It was a big decision to take on the team but with the continuing and enthusiastic support and commitment from you all, it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience. |
