Acklam v Ferryhill Town

Sunday 1st October

Acklam lined up against second division Ferryhill Town in the 2nd round of the TJFA League cup.

The early stages of the match were evenly matched, but Ferryhills superior passing meant they had more possession. Acklam always looked dangerous as they also started to pass the ball well. It was Ferryhill who took the lead though, with a tremendous 30 yard strike that zipped into the back of the Acklam net.

Acklams heads didn’t drop and they fought back well, to end the half with a one goal deficit.

Half time:- Acklam 0 v Ferryhill 1

The second half started with Ferryhill taking the game to Acklam and went 2-0 ahead with a well taken goal. Acklams fighting qualities came to the fore, and they got the breakthrough they deserved when Liam Hogg volleyed into the Ferryhill net from outside the penalty area to make the score 2-1 to the visitors.

This spurred both teams on to greater efforts but it was Ferryhill who scored again to

lead 3-1. This goal was the turning point in the game. Ferryhills crisp passing and impressive movement saw them take control. They now seemed a yard quicker and rattled in another three goals without reply. Acklams spirit shone through and they carried on battling until the final whistle.

Full Time Acklam 1 v Ferryhill 6

Acklam fought well and with great spirit, and, especially in the first half matched a very impressive and skilful Ferryhill side. Sometimes however you come up against a team who on the day are too good for you. The 6-1 score line was harsh but credit should go to Ferryhill who took their chances well.

M.O.M.   Liam Talukder – He was a little pocket dynamo, won tackles, covered every inch of the pitch, and as always played the game with great enthusiasm.
