ACKLAM FC v PRISSICK ROVERS
Sunday 21st January 2007
Acklam hosted Prissick in this weeks TJFA league match. Acklam quickly took control of the match and pushed Prissick back. The first 10 minutes were played almost entirely in the Prissick half, a combination of hurried finishing and resolute defensive play meant the match remained goalless.
Prissick eventually got a foot on the ball and their well organised defence and midfield made things hard for Acklam.
Acklam were seeing a lot of the ball but the hard working Prissick side prevented Acklam from creating clear cut chances.
Acklam eventually got the breakthrough when on 20 minutes Adam Lane pounced on rare indecision in the Prissick defence and fired past the keeper for Acklam’s first goal.
Prissick continued fighting for every ball and limited Acklam to long shots which were easily dealt with by the keeper.
The first half drew to a close with the score
Acklam 1 v Prissick 0.
The second half continued in the same vein, Acklam had more of the play but Prissicks work rate made sure every loose ball was contested. For all their possession Acklam could not score the all important second goal. Prissicks confidence grew and they made more frequent raids into the Acklam half, now it was Acklams defences turn to withstand some pressure. A fierce battle ensued in the middle of the park, Acklam’s midfield of Alex Hamblen, Joe Stubley, Liam Hogg and Jordan Wales matched Prissicks work rate.
A long ball out of defence from Gavin Stubley found Adam Lane who held off a Prissick defender and slotted the ball past the keeper and into the net for Acklams second goal.
Prissick upped the tempo from this setback and almost got a goal back, in a similar move to Acklams second goal the Prissick attacker slotted the ball past the advancing Acklam keeper only to see Acklams skipper Gavin Stubley make a tremendous goal line clearance. Acklam again pushed Prissick back but more hard work from the Prissick side prevented any more Acklam goals.
Full Time Acklam 2 v Prissick 0
This was another hard fought win for the squad, Prissick made sure Acklam had to work hard for the 3 points. Credit to the squad, they dug deep to overcome Prissick, but must remember hard work as well as football talent is necessary to be successful in this game.
Well done to Prissick, their hard work and team spirit were an example to Acklam.
M.O.M. – Liam Hogg – his hard running from midfield set an example to the team, as always he played the match with a smile on his face.
