ACKLAM v ST JOHNS SC

Sunday 15th October 2006

St Johns SC were the visitors to the Acorn Centre this week for Acklam’s fourth league game of the season. Acklam kicked off and soon took control of the game, they passed the ball well and were sharp in the tackle. St Johns were finding it difficult to get into the game. Acklam’s midfield started creating chances and they got an early breakthrough when Josh McDermott fired in. This was closely followed by another goal, this time from strike partner Adam Lane. The early goals gave Acklam extra confidence and their impressive passing continued. It was all Acklam now as Josh Mc Dermott fired in a hat trick. Acklam’s midfield had a strong hold on the game and their work rate increased.

Another three goals followed before halftime, all from Acklam’s impressive frontline, two more from Josh Mc Dermott and one from Adam Lane.

Half  time 7-0

Acklam made a number of changes at half time but the game continued in the same vein.

St Johns battled well but Acklam’s midfield were too strong for them. Acklam went further ahead with goals from Liam Talukder, and two from Jordan Wales, to take the score to 10-0. St Johns efforts finally paid dividends when an Acklam midfielder blatantly pushed the St Johns attacker in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty was well taken to make the score 10-1.

Adam Lane fired in another two well taken goals for Acklam before full time.

Final Score Acklam 12 v St Johns SC 1

This was another great result for Acklam, they went into the game with the right attitude, some great finishing from the strikers, and another steady performance from the defence together with another excellent hard working game from the midfield were the foundations of another impressive performance.

St Johns can be proud of themselves, they played the whole game with great enthusiasm, spirit, sportsmanship and effort, and competed for the full 60 minutes when it would have been understandable if there heads had dropped.

M.O.M – Joe Stubley - His effort, attitude and appetite for the game were excellent and he took command of the midfield from the first minute.
