Acklam FC v Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’

Sunday 21st October 2007

Acklam played host to Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’, with both teams going into the game on the back of fantastic wins last week.

Acklam were first into the action when Adam Lane picked up the ball on the left wing, played a brilliant cross field pass to Jordan Wales who’s shot was blocked by the defender, the ball ran to Josh McDermott whose shot went just wide.

Bishop Auckland St Mary’s had a throw in deep in Acklam’s half, this was headed away by Sean Speight, picked up by Joe Stubley who played a first time through ball to Adam Lane who sprinted clear and slotted the ball past the keeper to open the scoring.

Three minutes later Joe Stubley repeated his earlier pass, this time to Alex Hamblen who calmly beat the keeper to make it 2-0.

Josh McDermott broke clear but his effort was well saved by the St Mary’s keeper.

Bishop Auckland St Mary’s had a corner that was cleared to Joe Stubley who headed on to Josh McDermott whose first time flick set Adam Lane clear and he chipped the advancing keeper to make it 3-0.

Bishop Auckland St Mary’s should have pulled one back right on half time but the chance was missed and Acklam were lucky to clear the danger.

Half Time: Acklam FC 3 – 0 Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’

Acklam restarted were they left off on the attack and Jordan Wales just missed when he was put in at the far post.

Adam Lane completed his hat trick when a great burst of speed beat the St Mary’s full back to the ball and he coolly slotted it past the keeper.

Acklam replaced Josh McDermott and Charlie Collin with Stephen Waite and Michael Hurndall.

Adam Lane was a constant thorn in St Mary’s side and might of added to his collection but hit the post and put the rebound wide.

Jordan Wales set up Joe Stubley who’s shot was pushed behind for a corner.

Jack Cubbin set up Adam Lane whose shot was saved by the keeper but unluckily the rebound hit an on rushing defender and bounced over the line for an own goal.

Adam Lane set up Stephen Waite but the shot was ruled out for offside.

Bishop Auckland St Mary’s had a corner and only a great fingertip save from Joe Parkin denied them.

Then the move of the game to complete the scoring when Jack Cubbin played in Adam Lane, Joe Stubley’s run took away the defender creating space for Stephen Waite at the far post to receive Adam’s pass and he fired past the keeper.

Sean Speight had a shot just wide from 25yds out and Joe Stubley cut in from the left but blazed his shot high over the bar.

Full Time: Acklam FC 6 – 0 Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’

Some very impressive performances from Acklam this week. Sandy Davison had a good game at right back Sean Speight and Gavin Stubley are the rock at centre half with some fantastic defending. Alex Hamblen was tackling like a tiger, Joe Stubley & Jack Cubbin running the midfield & Adam Lane scoring goals for fun up front.

MOM: The very impressive Adam Lane, this lads work rate combined with his pace & finishing are producing some top performances at the moment.
