Marton FC v Acklam FC

League Cup Semi Final

Sun 24th Feb 2008

Acklam made the short trip to Hall Drive to take on Marton in the semi final of the League Cup and a big crowd had gathered to see what unfolded

Marton applied the early pressure and had a succession of corners that caused Acklam a few early scares, but they rode their luck and came through this difficult spell and asked a few questions of their own on their higher placed opponents

Acklam opened the scoring with a right foot shot from Joe Stubley beat the keeper at his left hand post

Acklam also had a chance cleared of the line as they went in search of a second goal

The game was turning into the good game that so many of the spectators there were hoping for with Acklam not giving Marton time on the ball and closing them down at every opportunity

Acklam went in at half time 1-0 up and had worked very hard to keep a very good team from scoring

Half Time  Marton FC 0 - 1 Acklam FC

The second half got under way and it was apparent that Marton were not going to let Acklam have a much possession as they had in the first half

Marton equalised 10mins into the second half and sadly for Acklam added another not long after

This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Acklam and after a shaky period when Marton were well on top Acklam steadied themselves and started to apply more pressure

With Acklam now pushing on for the equaliser Marton added a third goal to finish the game as a contest

Full Time  Marton FC 3 - 1 Acklam FC

Acklam can hold their heads high after a great cup run this season, for a 4th division team to get to the last four of the League Cup is a remarkable achievement and this from a team that hasn't completed 3 full seasons of junior football

Today we came up against a very good experienced first division side who thoroughly deserved their victory

If only we could have played the 2nd half as we did the 1st then the outcome my have been different, but the amount of effort that went into that 1st half was phenomenal and we gave Marton one of the hardest games they have had this season

Acklam FC would like to wish Marton FC all the best for the Final
