Acklam FC v Middleton Rangers ‘A’
Sunday 16th December 2007
Acklam played host to Middleton Rangers on a very cold day after the pitch was passed fit after a morning inspection.
The early exchanges were very even with Middleton battling and chasing every ball
Alex Hamblen played in Joe Stubley who chipped wide past the advancing keeper.
Joe Stubley then found Alex Hamblen down the left and his cross to the far post for Jordan Wales who’s shot was blocked for a corner.
Middleton’s defence was well organised and caught Acklam offside on a number of occasions, some it has to be said were very dubious and tight decisions
Middleton broke clear of the Acklam defence but the shot went wide of the goal in a lucky escape for Acklam
Alex Hamblen was turning in a great display down the left and seeing a lot of the ball and but he shot wide when put through on goal
Charlie Collin had a great run from left back through the defence when everyone else was offside but sadly his shot was wide
Acklam opened the scoring after 20mins when Jack Cubbin chipped the ball onto Alex Hamblen who crossed for top scorer Adam lane to head home
Then Charlie Collin played a neat one two with the ever-impressive Jack Cubbin and found himself through on the keeper yet again but this time finished with a well-taken strike.
Joe Stubley who was everywhere in the midfield was unlucky with aright foot shot that hit the post
Then Josh McDermott tried a spectacular overhead kick that the keeper did very well to hold
Middleton again applied the pressure and this game was very even going into half time and they could of reduced the deficit but for a great save from Michael Easton in the Acklam goal
Half Time Acklam FC 2 v 0 Middleton Rangers ‘A’
Acklam again hit the post early in the second half, but did manage to increase their lead when Adam Lane put Alex Hamblen clear and he scored past the Middleton keeper
Joe Stubley went down the left on a terrific powerful run and his cross was meet by Josh McDermott who fired in an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area
Acklam made a few substitutions with Stephen Waite Joe Parkin Sandy Davison and new boy Michael Bond all coming on
In a repeat of the third goal Adam lane was again the provider for Alex Hanblen to score the fifth
Sandy Davison Jordan Wales and Michael Bond all combined to set up Adam Lane to score from just inside the box
Michael Bond then played Joe Parkin through to score the final goal of the game with a great composed finish
Jordan Wales thought he had added another goal but a fantastic reflex save from the very impressive Middleton goalkeeper denied him
Full Time Acklam FC 7 v 0 Middleton Rangers ‘A’
Full credit to Middleton who made Acklam battle all the way for a victory
There was some good performances all round with Michael Easton keeping a clean sheet in his first start in goal this season, some excellent defensive play and passing showed by Michael Hurndall at right back, some great wing play by Alex Hamblen and a tireless performance from Adam Lane up front who also dropped into midfield to pick the ball up and he proved why he is so well thought of by everyone at Acklam
MOM Charlie Collin for the second week running, a great display capped by a moment of great skill and awareness to claim his first ever goal for Acklam
