Acklam FC v Darlington TSC
Friday 11th April 2008
Acklam entertained TSC in a rearranged fixture on a soaking wet pitch after the heavy afternoon rain
Due to holidays and injuries Acklam only had 10 fit available players, and TSC turned up with the bare 11 so it was never going to be easy for either side not having substitutes to call upon
TSC started well and Joe Parkin had to make a brilliant save to deny them early on
Stephen Waite playing up front on his own to start off with had a shot at goal bound shot blocked by the defender
Lewis Bollands and Jack Cubbin were working very hard to close down the TSC midfield with the ever impressive Todd been instrumental in all TSC’s good moves
TSC missed a good chance when a corner was missed by everyone at the back post
Jordan Wales had a good shot well saved by Walsh in the TSC goal. Walsh also saved well from Jack Cubbin as Acklam tried to gain an advantage
Todd put in a fantastic cross from the right but again no one was on hand to finish for TSC
Michael Bond went up front and caused TSC different problems with his strength as Stephen Waite went out wide left
The Acklam defence were working very hard to keep TSC out none more so than Michael Hurndall who made some great tackles at right back
Jordan Wales cut in from the right and his shot was pushed round the post for a corner as the first half came to an end
Half Time: Acklam FC 0 v 0 Darlington TSC
TSC started to turn the screw in the second half and a goal mouth scramble was only just cleared by Acklam
Jack Cubbin then shot wide when well placed
Acklam were starting to tire as they had put so much into this game to preserve their 100% record
Todd should have scored when he burst through the middle for TSC but a great save again by Joe Parkin denied him
Acklam managed to scramble another effort of the line as TSC pressed and made the extra man count
Michael Bond moved to the right wing to allow Jordan Wales to go up front, and his pace caused TSC problems
With the game into injury time Jordan Wales swung over a corner, it was flicked on and fell to Stephen Waite at the far post and he found the corner of the net with a good finish
This was very hard on TSC as they deserved to get something from the game but it also meant Acklam kept their 100% record intact against a very good side
Full Time: Acklam FC 1 v 0 Darlington TSC
What a fantastic performance by the whole team. They worked so hard for one another with their never say die attitude. A number of players were asked to play out of position and they all did a great job
We would probably have accepted a point before kick off but to take all three with only 10 men was a fantastic achievement
As the saying goes “that’s why were champions” and this game was perfect proof of why we have had a great season. Well done boys we are so proud of you
