            Match Report

Stockton West End v Acklam FC

Sunday 13th Sept 2009

Acklam travelled to Stockton to open the season and came away with all three points in a very good performance.

Ste waite had the first effort when he had his free kick saved by the West End keeper.

Acklam opened the scoring in the 7th min when Dave Pottinger (one of many new players making their debuts) put Sam Gowland away and he finished well beating the advancing West End keeper.

West End equalised on 22mins with a well worked goal down the left hand side

But straight from the restart Sandy Davison’s forward pass was fantastically flicked on by Ste Waite to Sam Gowland who hit an early contender for goal of the season with a 35 yard drive.

Michael Bond then chipped a clever free kick in as West End ran out looking for the offside but Sandy Davison had timed his run to perfection and slotted home

Michael Hurndall then had two shots just wide as Acklam grew in confidence.

West End got one back just before half time when they pounced on a goal mouth scramble

Half Time: Stockton West End 2 v 3 Acklam FC

Five mins into the second half and Ste Waite curled Acklam’s fourth directly in from a corner

Acklam made a number of substitutions and increased their lead on 56mins when Alfie Kay fed Lewis Bollands and his cross was met at the far post by Jack Boddy

Acklams quick free kick caught West End cold and Dave Pottinger scored from a very tight angle to make it six

Michael Bond then hit a wonder strike from 25 yards out on 70mins after West End had only half cleared to complete the scoring

Full Time: Stockton West End 2 v 7 Acklam FC

A great start to the season with a number of late additions to the squad gelling very quickly and very well together.

Once we got to grips with West End’s long ball game we controlled the second half and could have had more

MOM: Stephen Waite

A fantastic all round performance, a great first touch, good vision, a fantastic goal, set pieces a dream for any forward to get on the end of, and even went in goal when Luke Moore was injured
