Acklam FC v Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’
Sunday 18th October 2009
Acklam played hosts to St Mary’s on Sunday and it turned out to be a good game played in the right spirit of Junior Football
St Mary’s started the stronger and had a couple of early chances, Acklam tried to push forward at every opportunity but found it difficult to beat a very good St Mary’s keeper.
St Mary’s scored on 20mins when their striker ran in from the left and scored into the far corner.
St Mary’s went in at half time 2-0 up when hesitation between the Acklam defence and keeper allowed the forward to slot the ball home
Half Time: Acklam FC 0 v 2 Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’
Two terrible defensive mistakes by Acklam allowed Half Time: Acklam FC 0 v 2 Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’
to score twice in 4mins of the 2nd half and end the game as a contest
Acklam tried hard to get back into the game and although they scored through Ste Waite & Danny Helm (his first for the club) were unable to grab a point from the game.
Full Time: Acklam FC 2 v 4 Bishop Auckland St Mary’s ‘B’
If we continue to give sloppy goals away like we did today then it is going to be a long hard season.
After we scored you could see the confidence start to come back and this resulted in another well worked goal, and but for hitting the post and a few goal mouth scrambles that St Mary’s cleared we might have grabbed a point from this game.
MOM: Matty Prior had a very good game back at centre half winning more than his far share of tackles against a decent opponent
