Acklam FC v Billingham Town
Sunday 25th October 2009
Acklam played Billingham on a windy day at the Acorn Centre.
The game got off to a flying start when Billingham took an early lead on 7mins but only 3mins later Acklam had equalised through ex Billingham player David Pottinger coolly slotting the ball home when put clear.
The game was end to end with Acklam giving a good account of themselves against higher opposition.
Acklam had a goal disallowed for offside as the half come to a close
Half Time: Acklam FC 1 v 1 Billingham Town
The game continued at a frantic pace with both sides looking for a winner. Acklam were battling better than they have in recent games and should just what they could do if they believe in themselves.
They were stretching Billingham at every opportunity and deserved something out of the game, but this looked unlikely with 3mins to go when after an injury to one of the Acklam players the ball was played forward and Billingham scored as Acklam’s defence waited for the game to be halted.
Tempers started to boil and Acklam put everything into the last 3mins and with the Referee awarding Acklam a corner with 30secs left Jack Boddy’s fantastic corner caused panic in the Billingham defence and Sandy Davison added the final touch to claim a point for Acklam
This upset Billingham so much they refused to shake hands with Acklam at the final whistle.
Full Time: Acklam FC 2 v 2 Billingham Town
A great performance against a good side who will be there or there abouts come the end of the season.
There were times in the game when we totally dominated and possibly deserved more than just a point
