North Riding Cup 2nd Round

Acklam entertained Woodthorpe champions of the York area league last season in the 2nd round of the North Riding Cup

Woodthorpe were a very good side and proved it very early on with a very high tempo and some early goals

Acklam just couldn't get to grips with a far better team and went in 4-0 down at half time

Woodthorpe continued to score at will but were helped along the way by some unfortunate Acklam mistakes that seemed to be punished every time they made one

Acklam to their credit tried hard and never gave up, Matty Prior & Dean Ellis the pick of the defence. Danny Helm & Michael Bond trying to get to grips with a very good Woodthorpe midfield worked very hard. Jack Boddy & David Pottinger never giving up the hope of getting something back and their efforts deserved something better and Sam Gowland bravely stepping into goal after Luke Moore was injured. But we must learn from our mistakes quickly or this season is going to be a long hard battle to stay up.
