The 2007/2008 season was a fantastic achievement for Acklam FC, with the Under 13’s winning the league without dropping a point. So this year was always going to be a hard act to follow for any team connected with the club.
As you all know we started an Under 9’s squad this season and after some early problems with the intended new manager who actually disappeared 5 weeks before the season started, Andy Hall one of the players parents stepped forward to take up the role of manager and with the help of Mickey Campbell they have had a great first season in charge and have now been bitten by the bug of Junior Football and we hope they will be connected to the club for many years to come.
During the summer we also revamped our website and this has proved to be a very popular site with hits from all over the world, not bad for a team only 4 years old.
On the playing front both sides have worked very hard this season, with the Under 9’s gaining 13 Points and finishing a creditable 7th in their first season. I’m sure the experience they have gained this year will stand them in good stead and hopefully go on to be a force to be reckoned with next season. The Under 14’s squad lost a few very influential player last summer and also as the season went on, this we put down to been victims of our own success over the past two seasons, but with a few additions and loyalty shown be the rest of the squad have managed to come out of the season with there heads held high and finished 3rd in a very tough third division.
My thanks go to all the coaches Daniel, Shaun, Andy & Mickey who have put a lot of time and effort into Acklam FC and have all gained their Level One Coaching Award this season. People don’t realise how much time it actually takes to run a junior football team and sometimes to the detrimental effect of their own family so without their support none of this would be possible.
Also Mark Page who coaches our goalkeepers of both age groups every 3 weeks or so and has brought them on in leaps and bounds.
Angie Lane for all the hard work she does behind the scenes with both squads. Whenever I need something organising or any fund raising sorting she is always the first to offer and does a fantastic job.
Also Guy Whatmore and his staff at the Acorn Centre, for the use of the facilities there. When the new Acklam Grange School is completed we will have one of the best places for training & matches in Middlesbrough.
To all the parents for your continued support and encouragement you give your kids and the help you give to your respective managers.
To all the players, what you have all achieved this season is fantastic and I hope like myself and all the other coaches, you are proud to be associated with Acklam FC and finally I hope you enjoy this evening, you’ve deserved it.
