This was our first season at 11 a side football and what a season, managing to finish in 3rd position and only 1 point behind 2nd place. We played 18 games winning 13, 2 draws and 3 losses. Every single one of the lads should be extremely proud of themselves, they have set some great records this season. In 18 games we scored a magnificent 114 goals and only conceding 29 which was the least in the league. Some of the football that we have played this season has been simply brilliant, we have passed the ball, defended well and attacked at pace and a lot of teams have found it hard to play against us this season.

The keeper\defence has been outstanding working hard as a unit to keep out some very good strikers in this division. The midfield has also been outstanding working hard at helping out in defence as well as pushing the game forward to feed and support the strikers.

The forwards have scored a bundle of goals this season, helping us to finish teams off.

With the change from 7 a side to 11 the boys had a lot to learn and learn quickly, positions, offside's etc.  We had a good idea of what player’s could play in certain positions but others we had to find players for positions.

Pre season we had a few friendly’s to find out how we would cope at 11 a side and watching the games we thought, yeah we have the makings of a good team here.

We started the season with 2 good wins, with 18 goals scored and non against. Then  we visited Wolsingham, who we would play 2 Sundays on the bounce, sadly we lost both. The first game I’m not going to say we were cheated by referee’s but that’s what it felt like. The second game we dominated but with 10 minutes to go we switched off and conceded 3 goals.

We picked ourselves up and carried on the fight up the league, apart from 1 draw we won every game. As the season progressed the league started to sort its self out. There were 3 teams that looked very strong and we were one of them. Other managers were commenting on how good of a team we were and totally deserved to take something from the season.

The season came down to 2 games against Prissick Rovers. The first game played at Prissick was a very hard physical fought game which the referee had no control over. The unfortunate thing was we could not put the ball in the back of the net and we ended up losing the game 2 nil. The second turned out to be a “winner would take all” game, we needed to beat Prissick to finish 2nd and they at just needed 1 point to claim 2nd. All the lads knew what was riding on this game and they showed that with the amount of passion they played with. We started the better team scoring first however, we conceded an own goal allowing Prissick to gain parity which they needed. The lads knew they needed another goal and threw everything at Prissick but just could not get that all important next goal.

After the game as some of them sat silently and others with tears in their eyes we knew what it meant to them. Even though we never got the result we need Martin and I could not have been any more proud of them.

All season the boys have worked hard and developed as players and as people. Its been a pleasure to go through the season with the lads and we look forward to improving upon this season with a better under 12 campaign.
