The 2007/2008 season was always going to be a hard act to follow for the under 14’s this year.

We started very well winning our first five games including beating Great Ayton & Kader FC who would ultimately finish above us in the league, and second division Ferryhill in the League Cup.

We then went into November and the bad weather caused a lot of problems with a game one week then missing a few weeks etc. We were knocked out of the League Cup by a very good Stockton Town from the first division, but advanced to the Quarter-Finals of the North Riding Cup.

In January we lost two of our three games after the xmas break and this would eventually cost us dear. We were also beaten by first division

Cleveland Juniors in the North Riding Cup in a very one sided game.

But we then won six and drew two out of our final nine games as the season came to a busy climax. This would mean we finished a creditable third

behind Kader and Great Ayton, both of whom we had beaten during the

season.

The players have given their all and should be very proud of what they have achieved, yes were disappointed to miss out on the League Presentation Night but will continue to work hard during the close season and with the same determination and a bit more consistency we will hopefully push on further next season.

My thanks go to Shaun and Daniel who have helped me so much this season and to the parents for your continued support. My wife Suzanne and daughter Katie for being understanding and letting me do this hobby that I love so much.

But most of all the players here tonight who have stayed loyal to Acklam FC, we lost a few very influential player last summer and also as the season went on, who were poached by so called bigger clubs. We put this down to been victims of our own success over the past two seasons, but with a few extra additions to boost our squad numbers there is no reason why we can’t go from strength to strength next season.
