This has been our first season as a team together and has been a major learning curve for us all.
Mickey & I have had a lot to learn, understanding the 7 a side game, getting to know all the players.
As for the players it’s been even harder a lot of these lads had never met before never mind played football together. We have had quite a bit of turn round of players throughout the season with players leaving, new players joining the squad. Making this season all about building friendships and understandings, we never had much of a pre-season due to circumstances out of our control, so this short time was difficult on everyone so as the season started we where thrown in the deep end, so either sink or swim.
As the season started we had to quickly find players best positions and formations, we started our season at South Park Rangers B were we played very well unfortunately we came away losing 2-1, the losing streak carried on through the next 2 games until we got our first win against Great Ayton winning 3-0. We carried on the season on a roller coast of a ride with some ups but quite a few downs.
After a long winter break due to bad weather, the trend carried on until the end of January when we started to play good football and with a couple of draws we started to pick up. Then came our biggest defeat to Redcar Town B 1-7, we fell apart lost shape concentration everything that had started to work stopped.
But to our credit we put it to the back of our minds and carried on, playing some top of the league teams and held them to draws. Then came our best performance of the season we went to Redcar Town who by this time needed to win to secure promotion. As I said in our match report this was the best game of kids football I have ever watched, to think this team had beaten us off the field 5 weeks earlier we had them running scared, they did beat us 1-0 but the performance from everyone was fantastic. It took all season but this is how we know they can play.
To summarise the season up I have to say it was a shaky start but as time has gone on we have changed where we were going wrong and have pushed forward becoming a better team. A team I know and want us to become by push ourselves further next season, there’s nothing to say that if we carry on playing the way we finished up we can’t win some thing next season.
I’d like to finish this by saying it has been my pleasure to work with you all this
season, you are all a pain in the bum at times but you make Mickey & I laugh. Lets all stay together next season add some players and go forward
